10 Anime Characters That Stuck With Me

Welcome to Day 1 of my 12 Days of Anime! It kind of feels like I’m doing 13 days of anime because my OWLS post was only released yesterday, but never mind that. To kick things off we’re going to start with my first top 10! It’s been just over a year since I started watching anime and I’ve got some characters that have really stuck with me over that time. So without further ado, enjoy!

Sanae Kōzuki

When I watched Sakura Quest this year, I was pleasantly surprised to find an anime with female characters that weren’t too cliche. On top of that Sanae was a web developer!

She was the first anime character I saw myself in, as well as being a competent woman in tech. As such she deserves a place on this list.

Serika Onoe

Despite how I felt by the end of Chaos;Child, I found that Serika stuck with me.

The plot might have been abysmal but Serika as a character was very well thought out. She was a character surrounded by mystery and yet still retained more than one dimension. A wonder, actually, that they didn’t ruin her character by the end!

Chise Hatori

I think by the end of Ancient Magus’ Bride, Chise will rank higher. For now, I don’t know enough about where her story is going.

The OVA set her character up so well that I fell in love with her straight away. The main series had a rocky start but as she gains more and more self confidence, the higher she ranks.

Kanna Kamui

When I watched Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid, Kanna stole the show. I only had room for one kid on this list and Kanna beat out Momo.

Her involvement in Dragon Maid just enhanced the show. Whereas you could take Momo away from Sangatsu no Lion, you couldn’t take Kanna from Dragon Maid.

Heine Wittgenstein

Another of my stand out shows this year was The Royal Tutor and although I liked the princes, it was Heine that I associate with that show. Makes sense seeing as he was the tutor.

Although Heine had a rather predictable story by the end, the journey was continually exciting. I adored the way he affected the characters around him and brought out the best in them.

Haruhi Suzumiya

Despite the fact I still haven’t finished The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya I find myself thinking about Haruhi’s character a lot.

If I had an easier way to access it I’m very sure I would have binged this series and the film. She’s not the nicest of characters by any means, but there’s just something that draws me to her.

I’ll let you know when I figure out exactly what that is.

Rei Kiriyama

The first season of March Comes in like a Lion captured me completely. Rei’s story was so unlike anything I had seen before that I was excited to hear about season two.

Rei’s character is still evolving and despite him overcoming some obstacles, he still has a long way to go. His growth is one of the finer aspects of the show.

Yuri Katsuki

Yuri!!!! YURI!!! The second anime I watched. Ever.

I loved figure skating before I watched Yuri!!! on Ice and this show taught me that the things I like can be subject point for shows.

Yuri was such an adorable character that I will always remember him. Where’s my season 2! Or the movie?!

I know I said I only had room for one kid character, but Poco was the very first character that made me continue watching a show.

Poco’s Udon World was the first show I watched through to completion and I still want to pick up the manga for this series as well.

Poco will always have a place, no matter how many years pass. Even if it’s not always in the top 10.

Moriko Morioka

Moriko, my lovely Moriko! Was there any doubt she would have my number one spot?!

Recovery of an MMO Junkie was such a wonderful show for so many reasons and I adore everything she stands for. Despite the romance story she wasn’t compromised at all, not once did she have to change who she was.

You be proud of your game enjoyment, Moriko!

  1. I love the new, sleek design of your blog!

Great list, too! All wonderful characters. My jaw actually dropped when I saw that Yuri!!! on ICE was your second anime ever. WOW I was certain you had been watching anime for much longer than that.

Wonderful start to 12 Days of Aniblogging!

  2. Yay! Happy to have you with me for your first 12 Days of Anime!

Like Remy said, the new blog design is wonderful.

Haruhi sits at number 5 huh? Well, I’m just happy she’s on the list at all. Most people tend to forget about the show because it’s over 10 years old now. Doesn’t feel like it for me though, and she’d almost certainly make the number one spot on my own list.

    1. Thank you!

Part of the reason I couldn’t put Haruhi any higher is that I’ve still only seen half of the series. I’m watching them chronologically and my next episode is the “Remote Island Syndrome”. With so much development left to go I’m pretty sure she’ll end up higher; she’s very memorable!
