Welcome to my weekly post: Spring 2017 Anime Updates – Week 12. This is where I sum up my weekly viewing experience and thoughts on the anime season. This season I’m watching The Royal Tutor, Tsuki ga Kirei, and Sakura Quest.
The Royal Tutor
The Last Lesson
The finale has come and gone. It was an enjoyable finale, with a lot of tension throughout. It kept to its roots though and I especially loved the parallels between the first and last episodes. The lack of OP and ED were a slight disappointment because I’ve loved them so much I wanted to savour my last time watching them. They had so much content to fit in, though, that I can understand why the removed them.
We got to see the Princes really develop in this episode and the difference from their first introduction to the last scene during the credits did well at highlighting this change. We were also introduced to their older brother, Eins. Interestingly it didn’t seem as though he appreciated what Count Rosenberg had attempted to do. I believe Rosenberg had been working for Eins throughout this series, as I previously speculated, but was effectively fired from that position now.
I do wonder if there’ll be another series to come. Introducing Eins in this way makes me believe a sequel could be in order. I wouldn’t mind finding out more about how an heir is chosen but I don’t think I’d want to see these four brothers compete against each other for it. Regardless, this has been a really good series and it’s been really nice to watch every week.
The Dawn Guild
I feel as though this show just repeats the same story line elements in a two episode cycle. Something comes up, the tourism board plan something, there’s signs of it maybe not going to plan. Then in episode two things go a bit hectic, something dramatic happens, everything turns out alright. Now it’s not to say that I’m not enjoying it but I’m waiting for something to change it up.
Next week’s episode will be over the half way point for this series and I’m really expecting something to change. The series could do with this festival being broadcast and advertised in such a way that people will come even after it’s finished. It’s entirely possible that this series could become about managing and maintaining the tourism instead of just attracting it. I’m ready for something more than two a two episode story arc though.
Tsuki ga Kirei
An Encouragement of Learning
Oh why did it end this way?!
I really have no idea where this series is going to go. It’s got two paths ahead of it and I haven’t seen any indication of which way it will turn. I was hoping to get some sense of whether it’ll be a success or not but the cards are close to its chest and we’re not getting any sneak peak here.
We got a lingering sense of Chinatsu which worries me a bit. I don’t want that to be the place we leave our two characters, with Kotaro going to the same school as Chinatsu and Akane being the so far away. It was really nice she was happy for her friend and encouraged Kotaro but I feel like if he fails she will see it as being a success for her. I don’t know if I hate that I still consider her a threat to them or if I like it. Things felt quite unresolved whereas Takumi got a resolution between him and Akane.
Well, we’ll find out next week. It’s going to be a tough week to wait!
Stand Out Episode
The Royal Tutor
I have to give this week’s stand out episode to The Royal Tutor. It wasn’t the best of finale’s that I’ve seen but it did move me. The series lost some of its comedic values over the past two weeks but the things left for this week were more serious rather than comedic. It was very predictable but I didn’t mind that too much and I felt this series closed out really strongly with the parallels between the first and the last episode.
If you are watching any of these series and putting off this week’s episode then hop to it!
How were your anime episodes this week? Do you agree with my stand out episode choice? Let me know in the comments!
