We’ve essentially had two episodes getting to know our young stars, and now the plot is moving on. It’s really sweet and so respectful for the feelings that these young characters have. It really feels very personal, a story surrounding the two of them that we’re getting to watch without it feeling too much like the story was made for us to watch. It’s something I’ve not seen in any other Slice of Life I’ve watched so far.
This week moved the plot on further than I expected, though I really didn’t want it to end where it did. An answer one way or the other would’ve been nice! It thought it was really well done that we didn’t get to know how Akane’s meet went before Kotaro did and we don’t know whether Takumi asked Akane out after the meet like her friends thought that they would. It’s becoming more and more obvious that Takumi is interested in Akane and that her friend, Chinatsu likes Kotaro and I do wonder how the story is going to progress.
I felt as though this episode was slightly more confusing than the previous ones, however. Kotaro’s personal storyline surrounding his story I didn’t understand. I couldn’t tell if it had been published, if he was waiting to hear back, or if it had been rejected and I thought that let the epsiode down ever so slightly in comparison to the previous one.
This series is all rather delicate and I think watching it week by week is a good way to experience this show. It develops quickly over the 20 minutes it airs and there’s no need to remind you of what happened last week – partly because not too much happens on a week by week basis but also because it’s a show that stays with you over the course of the week. I think if you were watching this in one long session it might lose some of the intricacies that I’m enjoying so much.
It’s the third year of middle school. Kotaro, a bookish boy aspiring to become a novelist, and Akane, a track girl who loves to run, meet in the same class together for the first time. They’re put in charge of the equipment for the sports festival, and slowly grow closer via LINE. How does Kotaro deal with his growing feelings for her? Meanwhile, Takumi has been in love with Akane since first year, and Akane’s friend, Chinatsu, becomes interested in Kotaro. A refreshing story of young love set in Kawagoe
With the school trip looming, the third-years are abuzz with dating gossip. Meanwhile, Kotaro is busy with his writing, and Akane is working on her running performance.
